- Eminem and Nick Cannon have been feuding for a long time.
- Cannon recently said he wants to squash the beef with the “Cleaning Out My Closet” rapper.
- But what’s Cannon’s real motive for wanting to make peace?
If Nick Cannon had his way, he and Eminem would no longer be fighting.
In a new interview, the former host of “Wild N’Out” confirmed that he wants nothing more than to squash the beef with his longtime rival and multiplatinum rapper. What’s more, rapper Fat Joe said that he’d like to be the one to broker the peace treaty between the two men.
Seems like a great way to grab headlines — which it definitely seemed to do — but what’s Cannon’s real motive behind this?
Eminem Has Been Roasting Nick Cannon For Years
During an interview on Fat Joe’s Instagram page, Nick Cannon was approached about the Eminem subject. The Terror Squad capo asked Cannon if he’d like to eventually make peace with the real Slim Shady, to which Cannon replied in the affirmative.
One day, hopefully, dude and I will get an opportunity to sit down, ’cause like I said, I do respect his ability.
Cannon went on to say that he’d been trying to get Eminem’s friend and fellow rapper Royce the 5’9″ to broker the deal, so it wasn’t just a one-time and one-way thing. The efforts have been proving difficult, however, as Marshall Mathers’ beef with the “Drumline” actor goes back at least a decade, when Cannon first married Em’s sort-of-ex-girlfriend Mariah Carey. He memorialized the beef in a now-classic diss track, “Bagpipes From Baghdad,” which you can peep below.
As much as one would like to say that Cannon is noble in his pursuits, there seems to be more than meets the eye.
Another Publicity Stunt?
There’s certainly no shortage of publicity surrounding Mariah Carey’s upcoming memoir, which will be released later this month. And despite Cannon’s best efforts to get noticed, most of the hype surrounding the memoir focuses on Carey and her were-they-or-weren’t-they relationship with Eminem.
It’s tragically hilarious that Cannon — who was married to Carey and had two children with her — is almost an after-thought in the whole media blitz. When word first got out that Cannon wanted to squash the beef, fans of Eminem argued that the beef was already squashed…because Em paid Cannon no mind after murking him.
However, Cannon has a habit of putting his foot in his mouth, and honestly, this whole “peace deal” seems like more of a publicity stunt to get back into the public’s good graces than it is a real attempt to go man-to-man with Eminem.
